*After clearing the game and reaching the Bonus Room, you may unlock SECRET CHARACTERS. They may then be added to the party during subsequent playthroughs of the main game by hovering your cursor over the corresponding character in the party editing list (noted in parentheses above) and pressing SHIFT. *You may change your starter one time per playthrough at Snowy Vale prior to opening the door that leads to The Royal Road.
Characters are listed in order from soonest to latest in terms of when they can be acquired.
The majority of characters can be added to your party as early as you want/as soon as you find them.
Please refer to each character’s individual pages for detailed join conditions and stat/ability spreads.
All party counts listed below are “total” party members including the main character.
“Secret” characters (ones added to the party by pressing SHIFT) do not count towards your party member count.

Water I | Seaside Cavern Talk to her and she will join you. 5+ party members will require you to battle her. |
Flame I | Old Tree Manor Talk to her on the top floor and she will join you. 5+ party members will require you to battle her. 12+ party members will also require a battle, but she will move to the basement. |
Wind I | Southern Shores Talk to her and revive her with a Soul Returner. The Royal Road 5+ party members will require you to battle her much later in the game on the Royal Road. |
Stone I | Western Graveyard Talk to her and she will join you. (She pokes her head out from the ground occasionally.) 5+ party members will require you to find her at the Dwarven Forge and battle her alongside Quake III. |
Spirit Bless | Verdant Valley Battle her at the stage and she will join you. 8+ party members & no other Idols in your party will require you to battle all 3 idols on the Verdant Valley stage at the same time, powered up. |
Cold Pasta | Snowy Vale Battle her at the stage and she will join you. 8+ party members & at least 1 other Idol in the party will require a battle and will result in her being stronger. 8+ party members & no other Idols in your party will require you to battle all 3 idols on the Verdant Valley stage at the same time. |
Electro Barrier | The Curry House Talk to her and she will join you. 5+ party members will require you to battle her. |
Burst I | Grand Prison Unlock her cell with the Jail Key or a Crystal Key, then talk to her and she will join you. 5+ party members will require you to battle her. |
Spirit Curse | Dwarven Mines Battle her at the stage and she will join you. 8+ party members & at least 1 other Idol in the party will require a battle and will result in her being stronger. 8+ party members & no other Idols in your party will require you to battle all 3 idols on the Verdant Valley stage at the same time. |
Quake III | Dwarven Forge Battle him in the classroom after entering the forge nextdoor (Shining Crystal Key or Steel Key required) and battling one of the dwarves inside. If Stone I is not in the party and you have 5+ members, you will also receive Stone I after defeating Quake III. |
Leaf Barrier | Termite’s Nest Talk to her and she will join you. 8+ party members will require you to battle her. |
Aubergonath | Waterfall Grotto 4+ characters: Talk to her and she will join you. 3 or fewer characters OR 33% Soul unleash rate (4 dragons have appeared) will require a battle in the Waterfall Grotto. Afterwards, you must take the Dragon’s Bone Dust from that battle and use it on the dead tree at the Sealed Fairy Fountain, go to a different area and return, and she will be under the tree. |
Poison | Forest Hut Battle him and he will join you. If Wind I is in the party, you will not have to battle him and he will come with upgraded skills. |
Confuse | Bizarre Mansion Battle him on the top floor and he will join you. Answering all of the quiz questions correctly on the first floor will result in him being stronger. |
Spark III | Huntsman’s Woods Battle her and she will join you. |
Quick Move | Fallen Lighthouses Talk to her while the main character has lighting magic/a lightning weapon equipped and she will join you. 8+ party members will require you to battle her. |
Darkness I | YAMI Dominion Talk to her and she will join you. 5+ party members will require you to bring her a Laxative before she will join. Yami Palace/Queen’s Domain 12+ party members will require you to battle against the Yami QUEEN for her to join you, provided you interact with her at least once in the YAMI Dominion at any point prior to OR after getting 12+ members. (Darkness III will join at the same time). Having Starlight I in the party will result in her being powered up. |
Darkness III | Yami Palace/Queen’s Domain Battle her and she will join you. 12+ party members without Darkness I having joined (more specifically, after having interacted with Darkness I prior to or after attaining 12+ party members) will require you to battle the Yami QUEEN for her to join. (Darkness I will join at the same time.) |
Starlight I | HIKARI Palace Battle her and she will join you. |
Starlight III | HIKARI Villa Battle him and he will join you. Having Starlight I in the party will result in him being powered up. |
Flame III | The Melting Den Inspect the sword in the blue flame room (near the area’s teleport point) after lighting all of the torches in The Melting Den and she will join you. |
