Ruler of Death

She is as strong as she boasts, but her vainglory may very well be her downfall.

How to Get Her

Clear the game and win round 7 of the SUPER Battle Arena. You may add Ruler of Death to the party by pressing SHIFT twice while hovering your cursor over Flame III.

Actually Using Her

Despite the Ruler of Death’s impressive stats for a RANK 1 character, her Conceit and Carelessness passives drag her down and make death come all too often. At least equipment weight is of little concern, and all 8 EX Skill slots are open to build her as you please. She can easily fill a magic user or physical attacker slot if you need one in your party.

Where she shines is in her single-target attacking and healing. Her Ghost typing is also nice defensively. True Ruler’s Eye does away with any problems she may have once had dealing with unfavorable type match ups hampering her offensive output. No Guard does away with any accuracy problems she may have, but it comes at the high price of making her die very quickly if the attacks start coming her way. You may as well stick her up front if protecting her proves too challenging.

Her main fault (besides the intentionally bad skills) is her heavy SP consumption. Certain insta-kill attacks are her worst nightmare since they aren’t going to miss.

Tactical Mode Considerations

She will start at SL150 at the bare minimum, same as Flame III when she joins. There are some good reasons to use Ruler of Death in Tactical Mode, and you may just want to leave her at SL150 or level her to SL159 and front-line her to avoid the downsides of Conceit and Carelessness.

Recommended Equipment

What Why
Meirai A solid front-line/mid-line STAB option.
Darkdrift Non-STAB, but makes up for Ruler of Death’s lack of resilience.
Undead Rapie Good for front-line Revenge strats. The revive chance is not specified, but it’s clearly not bad (especially paired with the corresponding EX Skill).
Chariot Lance Anti-Ghost powerhouse.
Thunder Bow Takes full advantage of her 100% accuracy.
Dragon Tusk Takes full advantage of her 100% accuracy.
Bloody Storm Has the usual great/huge sword downsides, but it’s strong and gets STAB. Can help compensate for a lack of staying power.
Underworld Sickle STAB mid-range slashing weapon. Hell Scythe with 100% accuracy is fearsome.
Earthquaker Awesome typing and enables casting of the mighty Quake III. Howl is NOT guaranteed to hit.
Scorching Staff Boosts magic. Fire III is a good casting option paired with the Affliction EX Skill.
Dark Inferno Boosts magic. Ghost/Dark is a great type to be defensively.
Chaos Shield Immunity to status ailments is great for a character who always gets hit. The HP drain is normally a problem, but this is actually good for getting her out of Conceit range more quickly without actually taking double damage to do it.
Kite Shield Ghost/Steel rocks defensively. Stun Resist and Sturdy are also excellent skills to have.
Evolution Stone A straight DEF boost.
Imperial Cross If you’re going to get hit all the time, you might as well not get crit all the time.
Master’s Obi Great for further punishing foes’ weak types.
Blitz Vest No item usage or manual defending, but this item isn’t a bad choice considering Ruler of Death’s quirks.
Magiplex Bracelet Makes it easier and cheaper to spam magic.
Darkness I Doll Depending on the fight, this can be a godsend.

Recommended EX Skills

EX Skill Why
HP+
DEF+
Can help to drastically make up for her softness stemming from her innate downsides. Also makes it easier to enter Revenge range.
Revival
Revenge
No Guard means that death comes quickly and often.
Keep in mind that dying and coming back in the same turn means actions entered won’t be executed that turn (unless you already went before dying).
Leader Makes dealing with fast opponents a bit easier.
Type Affinity Not many foes resist Ghost, so this is a straight upgrade.
MAG+
Magic Mastery
If building for casting.
Slash Mastery For front-line/mid-line fighting and swinging around the Death Sickle.
Affliction Death Sickle and Curse Wave benefit from the additional chance for their ailments to pop.
