Aubergonath

Hatched into a world of strife, she taps into both the power of nature and her inner dragon to conquer Kotoh's dangers.

Evergreen/Dragon Breath Changes

Using Dragon Breath or Evergreen outside of battle consumes no SP. Evergreen will change Rage Strike to World Word: Wood instead, while Dragon Breath will revert it to Rage Strike.

How to Get Her

If 3 or fewer party members (or if total Soul liberation is 33%+), complete the battle in the Waterfall Grotto, then take the Dragon’s Bone Dust dropped from that fight and use it on the withered tree at the Sealed Fairy Fountain (Verdant Valley). Leave the map, then return to find an eggplant growing beneath the tree.

Otherwise, just interacting with the purple dragon in the Waterfall Grotto will result in Aubergonath joining you.

To add her to the party once she joins, hover the cursor over your main character on the party editing screen and press SHIFT twice.

Actually Using Her

Her raw attack power leaves something to be desired, but she compensates for it in flexibility as she can change types and access different skill typing on the fly. This makes her competent enough as a damage dealer.

Building the rest of the party around her is easy since you can arm the team with any number of good shields to trigger Aubergonath’s Earth Nutrient and Chlorophyll passives. This does, however, present potential issues if those passives are cut off by mid-battle type changes, either through switching shields or guarding and covering up a type you were depending on to keep the passive skills going. If your strategy absolutely hinges on either of those passives being active (and in the case of Chlorophyll, it absolutely can), then you can always give Aubergonath a shield of her own to trigger them.

Aubergonath’s Dragon Form appears to bump up most of her stats (notably excluding HP and AGI) and also pushes her WT up to a nice 17. This means that you can gear her up slightly overweight for boss fights with zero downsides.

Tactical Mode Considerations

Aubergonath can be a tough sell in Tactical Mode since her most valuable skills don’t come until very high SL. Throwing a Hexilliam on her and taking full advantage of her flexible typing can make her a decent enough spellcaster with SP regen to keep her firing, but her lack of firepower becomes all the more apparent during boss fights where you truly need it the most.

Recommended Equipment

What Why
Phosphorescent Pole Useful only for its magic buffs. Aubergonath’s innate magic skills benefit from this weapon’s passive that helps them to fire off sooner.
Mystic Branch Has Grass type magic, same as Aubergonath herself. Pair it with a Hexilliam to pop spells constantly without worrying about her SP.
Hexilliam Earth type shield with SP regen. Triggers Aubergonath’s Earth Nutrient passive for total SP regen of 10SP each turn.
Orladin Guard Light type shield to trigger Aubergonath’s Chlorophyll passive, boosting her AGI by 1.5x. Weighs very little.
High Elf Guard Earth type shield. Has better defense than the Hexilliam.
Khulspau Light type shield. Yes, it drains HP, but makes up for it with superior defense and low weight.
